The Combat Zone: The Explanation

“I didn’t walk into battle...it drew me in, making me an untrained soldier in the hardest war to win.”

Shots fired!!!! And although I tried my hardest to duck and weave, I've been shot. That's what happens when you're in the combat zone. Some people call it a relationship but the battlefield is so wide spread with enemies lurking around every corner.

If you go in it without that Kevlar handy to protect your heart, the wounds can be painful and sometimes fatal to the strongest relationships. Some of us go at it many times with a sense of self-security and confidence that we will live forever in the heart of another. We believe that our own strengths are enough and no one can stop two beating hearts from keeping rhythm with each other.

But what happens when you're shot and your heart skips a beat and all your senses are oblivious. You stop thinking and panic sets in and the only thing left to do is pray that all those enemies gunning for you can't get a hold of your weapons of commitment and love.

If you are captured, caught up and stripped down outside of those loving boundaries, I suggest you stand strong and be a soldier. We should realize that the combat zone of a relationship doesn’t come with rules of engagement. As the old saying goes "all is fair in love and war." And some of us die out in the end.

  1. The Combat Zone. Always an adrenaline pumping second by second super reality that shapes itself into a motivated to survive instance...gotta keep the heart beating. And just like fighting to save the life of a friend on the battlefield, we often find ourselves in the battle to try and keep the heart of the one we feel the most deeply about "alive and still beating to the rhythms of a shared love". When one of those hearts no longer has the will to go on it becomes a task that takes more than what is common to save it. Like trying to describe the color red to a blind person it will take some real creativity. And even that depends on whether or not the recipient will "see" the value as you do...
